Community Day Spring 2025

April 5
A Powerful Launch to the Season

Over 500 players and parents came through the doors at VTT on April 5 for our Spring 2025 Community Day—a signature event on the Split Second Basketball calendar. It was a full day of connection, celebration, and high energy as we officially launched the spring season and welcomed new and returning families into our program.

Whether it was a player's first time walking into the gym or their tenth season with SSB, the excitement was palpable. There's nothing quite like the buzz of seeing everyone suited up, ready to work, and proud to be part of something bigger.

📦 Gear Drop: A Shirt Worth Talking About

This season’s gear package was a hit—players picked up their new shooting shirts, socks, and a limited-edition T-shirt that got more than a few double takes.

The T-shirt featured an original piece of dot art by Kevin Keeler, a former UBC basketball player turned artist, who created an image just for SSB. His work captures the iconic moment of Michael Jordan’s game-winning shot against Cleveland—a symbol of excellence, pressure, and the pursuit of greatness. The art now hangs proudly in our Oval office, and every player took home a piece of that inspiration.

📸 Say Cheese, Say Team

SSB’s longtime friend and photographer Josh Bowie returned to capture stunning portraits, team shots, and group photos throughout the day.

These photos aren’t just keepsakes—they’re snapshots of a growing, united community. Be sure to check out and download your team’s pictures and feel free to tag @SplitSecondBasketball when you share them.

🏋️‍♂️ Measuring Performance with Saltus Athletics

Once again, Saltus Athletics brought their testing setup to Community Day, offering our players the opportunity to track their vertical jump and peak power and to hear about the various S + C programs Saltus offers young athletes.

💥 Practicing Commitment & Building Winning Habits

This spring, our featured core value is Commitment—not just showing up, but showing up with purpose. During Community Day, SSB founder Eric Butler spoke to players and families about what real commitment looks like in youth sports: showing up consistently, staying coachable, and embracing the habits that lead to long-term growth.

We’re now halfway through our season, and that message continues to resonate across our gyms. Every practice is built around repetitions of our “winning habits”—those small, crucial actions that separate good players from great ones. By embedding those habits into competitive play situations, we’re keeping practices both fun and focused, and players are already showing noticeable improvement.

🙌 Looking Ahead

Community Day reminded us once again of the power of our great community. We’re grateful to every parent, coach, and player who brought energy and enthusiasm to the event—and we’re excited to see how far we can go together this season.

From all of us at Split Second, thank you for helping build something truly special. Let’s keep pushing, keep learning, and keep showing what commitment really looks like.
